Wireless IP Laboratory

Wireless IP Laboratory
Here you may get an overview about the Wireless IP Laboratory equipment and facilities.

The Wireless IP Laboratory is equipped by modern hardware devices and software. The equipment has been used for several research projects that deal with wireless technologies. The laboratory allows construct high performance networks based on the most modern technologies that provide us a unique platform for the research and development within the area of wireless communication technologies. Further, beside the powerful hardware, our laboratory is equipped by appropriate software which enables to manage our network devices. The software also provides great background for advanced simulations and virtualization of wireless technologies, protocols and applications. The high performance hardware is based on the products from the Cisco Systems, Inc.

For the construction of backbone network we have used following Cisco Systems-based active network elements:

  • Routers Cisco 1921, 1941W
  • Switches Cisco Catalyst 4900M, C3750X and 3650X
  • Wireless access points Cisco AIR LAP1142N, AIR LAP1262E, AIR CAP3502I and AIR CAP3502E
  • Wireless LAN controllers Cisco AIR CT5508

The backbone network was upgraded by following dedicated devices and software:

  • Cisco Spectrum Expert Control System

The Cisco Spectrum Expert Wi-Fi integrates with the Cisco Unified Wireless Network to deliver real-time spectrum intelligence for Wi-Fi networks. This industry-leading solution detects, classifies, and locates sources of RF interference in the unlicensed 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz bands. The Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) works in conjunction with Cisco Spectrum Expert Wi-Fi to provide visibility into non-Wi-Fi interference sources that may cause wireless performance degradation. With Cisco Spectrum Expert Wi-Fi the source of the interference can be determined allowing businesses to remove, move, shield, adjust, or replace the interference source. Organizations can troubleshoot their wireless networks to determine the root causes of interference problems and optimize network performance.

  • Cisco Prime Network Control System

Part of the Cisco Prime Infrastructure bundle, Cisco Prime Network Control System (NCS) provides converged user, access, and identity management across wired and wireless networks to meet the challenges that Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is placing on IT organizations. Designed with users and their mobile devices in mind, Cisco Prime NCS speeds network troubleshooting by giving IT complete visibility into connectivity, regardless of device, network or location. Deep integration with the Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) further extends this visibility across security and policy-related problems, presenting a complete view of client issues with a clear path to solving them. Cisco Prime NCS delivers full lifecycle management of Cisco wireless LAN infrastructure, with additional focus on the deployment and management of branch networks.

  • Cisco Mobility Services Engine

The Cisco Mobility Services Engine provides increased visibility of your wireless network. It captures and consolidates crucial information about RF spectrum, interferers, rogue devices, Wi-Fi devices, and smart phones. In that way, MSE helps extend and enhance the capabilities of Cisco CleanAir Technology, Adaptive Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (WIPS), and Location Services.

  • Cisco UCS C210 M2 server

The Cisco UCS C210 M2 server is a general-purpose, two-socket, 2 rack unit (RU) rack-mount server designed to balance performance, density, and efficiency for storage-intensive workloads with 36GB DDR3 RAM, 12 cores and 2,3TB storage. The system is built for applications such as network file servers and appliances, storage servers, database servers, and content-delivery servers.

  • Cisco Secure Access Control Server

The Cisco Secure Access Control Server (ACS) is an access policy control platform that helps you comply with growing regulatory and corporate requirements. By integrating with your other access control systems, it helps improve productivity and contain costs. It supports multiple scenarios simultaneously.

  • AeroScout

MobileView turns asset visibility information that is received from multiple data sources into real business solutions, delivering sophisticated mapping, rules-based alerting and reporting functions in a scalable, proven software platform. With MobileView, developers and end users can apply their own context-based rules and business logic to visibility information, truly leveraging their data for efficient and intuitive applications in many different industries.

The Wireless IP Laboratory also deals with security issues within the field of wireless technologies. For this purpose, our laboratory is equipped by several high performance security devices:

  • Cisco Security Manager

Cisco Security Manager (CSM) helps to enable consistent policy enforcement and rapid troubleshooting of security events, offering summarized reports across the security deployment. Using its centralized interface, organizations can scale efficiently and manage a wide range of Cisco security devices with improved visibility.

  • Cisco ASA 5500 firewall

The Cisco ASA 5500 Series delivers superior real-time protection: Integrating innovative IPS with Global Correlation, firewall, and VPN technology, the Cisco ASA 5500 Series delivers highly effective intrusion prevention capabilities using hardware-accelerated IPS modules. And Cisco guaranteed coverage delivers peace of mind. Site-to-site VPN: Using the hardware-accelerated site-to-site IPsec VPN capabilities provided by the Cisco ASA 5500 Series, businesses can securely augment or even replace legacy WANs by using low-cost Internet connections and IPsec VPN tunnels to connect to business partners and to remote and satellite offices worldwide. Secure mobility: The Cisco ASA 5500 Series offers flexible technologies that deliver tailored solutions to suit connectivity and secure mobility requirements for company-managed assets such as desktops, laptops and smartphones, as well as unmanaged devices such as Internet kiosks or employee-owned desktops, laptops and handhelds. The Cisco ASA 5500 Series delivers both clientless and SSL/DTLS/IPsec VPN secure mobility client options. Secure unified communications: The Cisco ASA 5500 Series provides extensive protocol support, signaling and media inspection, remote office and mobile user support, and simple provisioning to enable a secure, integrated voice and data network.

  • Cisco IPS 4240

At 250 Mbps, the Cisco IPS 4240 Sensor Appliance can be deployed to provide protection in switched environments, on multiple T3 subnets, and with the support of 10/100/1000 interfaces, it can also be deployed on partially utilized gigabit links. This purpose-built, inline-ready security appliance also supports multiple interfaces.

  • Cisco Security MARS 25R
